Career Management
Supply Chain Management (SCM) deals with a spectrum of fields including procurement, inventory and logistics. It is part of the Management, Scientific and Technical (MST) consulting industry that is ranked among the fastest growing industries by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics through 2012. The "Management Analyst" category is broader than MST consulting and includes SCM jobs. The bureau forecasts that the need for management analysts will grow from 21 percent to 35 percent between 2002 and 2012. In 2002, there were 577,000 management analysts specializing in management, scientific and consulting services and earning average salaries of $71,790. About 400,000 new jobs for "General and Operations Managers" will be created through 2012, representing the eighth largest increase among all employment categories.
