Graduate Career Planning Timeline
First half of your degree program:

Visit the School of Management's Career Management Center (CMC) and UT Dallas' Career Center in person, or visit the web sites and become familiar with the schedule of workshops and seminars; four areas warrant special attention:

Develop a strategic resume.

Learn behavioral interview skills and techniques.

Develop job search skills and techniques.
-
Develop social/business networking skills.
-

Update your resume. (You may need more than one version.)

Register with the online UT Dallas Recruiting System, UT Dallas Career Works. If you are seeking a job change by graduation, be sure to upload your resume.
Attend campus career fairs, company information sessions and networking events.

Participate in at least one student organization, a professional organization in your field or one of the school's research centers.

Expand your network; increase your list of contacts and expand your relationships.

Critical: Develop your career focus

Identify your job target.

Participate in career counseling, if necessary.

Second half of your degree program:
-
Create or update your UT Dallas Career Works web account.

Start a targeted job search (handouts in the CMC).

Participate in interview training: Do mock interviews and know the requirements for various interview styles and your "target" company norms.

Attend professional organization meetings related to your focus area.

Expand your list of prospective "target" employers.

Improve/update your resume(s) and format a powerful cover letter(s).

Network! Network! Network!

Monitor the UT Dallas web job listings regularly; attend career fairs and other job fairs.

Schedule interviews on and off campus.

Evaluate offers; report offers and acceptances to the school's Career Management Center.
